Munich, January 10, 2023 – The internal smartcard from Materna Virtual Solution works without additional external devices and now ensures mobile communication at VS-NfD level (classified information – for official use only) with significantly improved convenience. The certified solution offers a new level of user-friendliness and security.
The SecurePIM container application for mobile devices allows government employees to work, communicate and transfer data in a secure environment. By using the device’s security hardware and its own certification services, the internal smartcard enables complete registration and login to SecurePIM – without the use of external smartcards and the associated readers, which are dependent on updates and need to be charged. While the solution is already being used successfully by higher federal authorities, it has now received the approval recommendation from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
Logging in to SecurePIM via the internal smartcard is quick and easy and ensures confidential storage and transmission of data at the highest security level. Only the device PIN is required for the new operation, which significantly speeds up the process and eliminates the need for additional passwords or devices for verification. To log in, users only need to enter the PIN when opening the SecurePIM app and can then also use Touch ID or Face ID as long as the session is running. If no network connection to the internal servers can be established or Touch ID and Face ID have been used for too long, the workspace switches to restricted mode. However, a new login can be carried out at any time using the device PIN.
An iPhone or iPad with Secure Enclave and A13 processor is required to use the internal smartcard. Future models will require approval from the BSI in order to offer the VS-NfD standard.
“The internal smartcard means an enormous improvement in usability for users and at the same time guarantees compliance with the highest security standards,” explains Dr. Christian Schumer, CEO at Materna Virtual Solution. “For everyday use, we don’t need any complicated card and reader solutions, but can work with the integrated technology of a mobile device at the highest security level.”
