Digital sovereignty in the mobile working world as the key to modern administration

Digital and mobile sovereignty are key prerequisites for modern, effective administration. They determine whether authorities and organizations with security tasks can control their data, technologies and processes in a self-determined manner – on all devices, at any location and at any time.

Digital self-determination on smartphone and tablet

Digital sovereignty in the mobile working world describes the ability to retain technological, organizational and data protection control – regardless of location, provider or device.

It forms the basis for safe mobile working that empowers employees instead of restricting them.

Especially in the public sector, employees have to process confidential information, use specialist procedures and comply with data protection, BSI guidelines and GDPR at the same time. Digital self-determination means combining all of this securely and efficiently.

Mobile sovereignty – security starts on the device

Mobile sovereignty is the practical implementation of digital sovereignty on smartphones and tablets. It stands for the ability of an organization to design its mobile working environments independently, securely and in compliance with regulations – from device management to data processing.

Those who retain control over their mobile systems are sovereign. This includes:

  • Technological control over operating systems, platforms and applications,
  • Transparent data flows and protection of sensitive information up to classification level VS-NfD or NATO RESTRICTED,
  • and user-friendly systems that combine safety and convenience.

Mobile sovereignty combines the three dimensions of digital sovereignty – data, technological and user sovereignty – into a holistic understanding of secure, flexible working.

The three dimensions of digital and mobile sovereignty

01

Data sovereignty
Control instead of compromises

Data sovereignty means retaining sovereignty over information. Authorities and organizations need to know at all times where their data is located, who is accessing it and how it is protected. This can only be achieved through end-to-end encryption, strict access rights, secure mobile device management (MDM) and processes that ensure BSI approval and GDPR compliance. This ensures that confidential information remains protected – even when on the move or in the event of device loss.

02

Technological sovereignty
Security anchored in the system

Technological sovereignty ensures that security is not an afterthought, but is deeply embedded in the system.
Modern platforms such as indigo (iOS Native Devices in Government Operation) or Samsung Knox Native Solution, tested and approved by the BSI, clearly separate business and private areas and reliably protect sensitive data. This turns mobile working environments into resilient systems that combine security and productivity.

03

User sovereignty
Security that simply works

Sovereignty is only complete when people can live it. User sovereignty means that security is intuitive to use.
Only when systems are easy to understand and convenient will they be used consistently. In this way, secure mobile working becomes a natural part of everyday life – not a burden.

Why digital and mobile sovereignty are crucial now

In a world of hybrid working, increasing cyber threats and global dependencies, digital sovereignty is becoming a strategic success factor in the mobile working world. It not only protects data and systems, but also ensures the ability to act and the resilience of authorities and organizations with security tasks.

Digital and mobile sovereignty create trust, efficiency and independence – and form the basis for digital transformation in the public sector.

Freedom through security

Freedom is only possible if it is based on security. Digital and mobile sovereignty combine both: they give organizations back control over their data, technologies and work processes – and create a working world that is independent, resilient and future-proof.
The result is mobile working that works instead of demanding – ultra-mobile, ultra-secure and ultra-simple.
