The BSI issues an approval recommendation for the internal smartcard for SecurePIM

The SecurePIM Government SDS system solution for iOS has been approved by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for use without an external smartcard. Thanks to the smartcard integrated in the mobile device, mobile communication at VS-NfD level (classified information – for official use only) will in future be possible conveniently and securely without an external smartcard and the associated reader.

SecurePIM offers employees of public authorities and companies the opportunity to work, communicate and exchange data with each other securely and ultra-mobile in a specially protected environment. Previously, this required an external smartcard and a reader that was dependent on updates and had to be charged.

The internal smartcard, on the other hand, does not require any additional external devices and performs the complete registration and login to SecurePIM using the security hardware of the mobile device and its own certification services – quickly, easily and, above all, securely. For users, this means an enormous improvement in usability while maintaining the highest security standards. By eliminating the need for external hardware and firmware, authorities and companies can also significantly reduce their operating costs.

The only requirements for using the internal smartcard are an iPhone or iPad with Secure Enclave and an A13 processor. The solution is already being used successfully by higher federal authorities and has now also been approved by the BSI for use up to classification level VS-NfD. The release recommendation for Android devices (Samsung) is being sought.

In order to be able to work conveniently, securely and ultra-mobile in the future without cumbersome card and reader solutions, public authorities and companies should rely on a communication solution such as SecurePIM, which enables secure and intuitive mobile working thanks to the smart card integrated in the mobile device.
