SECUREPIM PERMITS COMPLIANCE WITH THE GDPR FOR SMARTPHONES AND TABLET COMPUTERS

Munich, 21 November 2017 – As a result of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation, companies must now also fully secure their mobile terminal devices. Virtual Solution fulfils the requirements set forth thanks to its SecurePIM container solution – problem-free and with a money-back commitment.

On 25 May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) shall enter into force in all EU member states. Most companies still have a lot to do before they will be able to fully comply with the new provisions set forth in the Regulation. Often, the fact that mobile terminal devices are also impacted by the GDPR is forgotten.

Nowadays, the amount of personal data processed or saved on smartphones and tablet computers is constantly increasing, which is why this information should also be appropriately protected on said devices. In addition, the GDPR requires that companies be able to prove their implementation of protection mechanisms to secure personal data on their mobile terminal devices. Amongst other provisions, the GDPR requires the following:

  • Protection of the integrity and confidentiality of corporate data on mobile devices, whether the devices are the property of the company itself or used in the context of a BYOD scheme;
  • Appropriate precautions to protect data by means of encryption, not only on the mobile devices themselves but also during the transmission of data;
  • Comprehensive documentation concerning the protection measures in place, available at all times, even if no concrete incident has occurred.

In accordance with Article 25, appropriate technologies and default settings promoting data protection must be guaranteed. This means that adequate technical and organisational measures (TOMs) must be implemented.

Fulfilment of the provisions thanks to container technology

Companies may only be able to comply with the provisions of the GDPR for mobile systems by means of a container-based segregation of corporate and personal data and applications. This is the only way to reliably protect corporate data from third-party threats and their unauthorized usage. These provisions are fulfilled if corporate data and applications are located in an encrypted container, and if all communications between the mobile terminal device and the company’s IT department are seamlessly encrypted.

Virtual Solution’s SecurePIM fulfils all the requirements set forth in the GDPR thanks to its container technology, and protects smartphones and tablet computers by means of the strict segregation of personal and corporate data. Moreover, the solution is easy to install and can be integrated into existing infrastructures.

Fines and money-back commitment

Non-compliance with the provisions of the GDPR can incur fines of up to 20 million Euros or up to 4% of the non-compliant company’s turnover. Virtual Solution’s commitment states that it will refund a given company’s payment for the annual cost of its SecurePIM licenses if it is fined by a German supervisory authority due to its usage of SecurePIM.

“With our money-back commitment, we want to highlight how confident we are in our product”, explains Günter Junk, CEO of Virtual Solution AG in Munich. “SecurePIM complies with the GDPR due to its container technology, and companies can rely on the protection provided by our app even in the critical world of security on terminal mobile devices.”
