The BSI has granted approval and permission to use the two secure platform solutions indigo and Knox Native Solution. This results in clear advantages for manufacturers, users, authorities and organizations. In the last blog, we briefly discussed the improved user experience in this context; in this blog, we explain the impact on app development and the ecosystem.
The BSI’s decision to approve and authorize the use of indigo and Knox Native Solution will have a positive impact on future app development and accelerate it. Software manufacturers now have a catalog of requirements to guide them in the development of new applications. This simplifies and speeds up many processes. In concrete terms, this means that if the applications are compatible with indigo or Knox Native Solution, they can go through the necessary approval process by the BSI much more quickly. Cooperation with integrators also facilitates the development cycle. With their expertise, they act as a link between manufacturers, BSI and companies. For example, companies can develop their own applications for the two platforms using this catalog of requirements.
Simplified app development also has another important side effect: it leads to a broader offering on the market and thus to a growing ecosystem. This primarily benefits public authorities, which can use indigo and Knox Native Solution to process sensitive data with classification levels such as VS-NfD (classified information – for official use only). For them, a growing ecosystem means “more” specialist applications that are available for secure and ultra-mobile work.
With the native platform release by the BSI, a completely new market will emerge in the long term, particularly in the official environment. There will be a variety of new, certified solutions that bring the vision of an ultra-mobile workplace of the future, where location-independent and flexible working and a consistent display of software across all devices, within reach. The SecurePIM container solution is an alternative for secure ultra-mobile working at VS-NfD level that has already been tried and tested and approved by the BSI.
